Michigan DOT Plans

In September 2014, MDOT released a Draft Tier I EIS for the Chicago-Detroit/Pontiac Corridor. The goal of the project is to expand service in the corridor and reduce delays. Adding sufficient, daily trains will require a bypass, called the South of the Lake Reroute (SOTL), around Norfolk Southern’s busy mainline between Porter, IN and Chicago, IL.

Along with several other Midwestern states, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to gain federal clearance to construct the bypass and other needed improvements.
