Write a letter to Congress!!
Write your Congressman, both of your Senators, the President, and your Governor. Letters aren't like votes; it is perfectly legal to write early and often. Include a specific example of how you currently use Amtrak or how you would use it if service was expanded. Here are sample letters to your Senator and Representatives and your Mayor. Get your friends to write letters too. Information about your elected officials is at www.vote-smart.org.

Formal Questions for Political Candidates
One very effective way to communicate with elected officials is to meet with them face to face. Here are some questions you can ask candidates, U.S. senators and representatives, state officials, mayors, etc. when you attend political and government events.

"My name is [John/Jane Q. Public] and I am a [businessperson, union member, individual member] of the Midwest High Speed Rail Association, a Association with 1000 business, governmental, individual and union members. If you were elected, would you vote for federal funding to improve passenger rail service in [Illinois] and institute high speed rail service on the [Chicago-St. Louis] corridor?"
