The Corridors: Hiawatha

The Hiawatha Corridor parallels Interstate 94 between Chicago, IL, Milwaukee, WI, and Madison, WI. This corridor is also the spine for service to Green Bay, the Twin Cities and to the West Coast.

Metra owns the trackage between Chicago and Roundout, where its Fox Lake branch diverges. 30 daily Metra commuter roundtrips operate over this segment.

Amtrak, under contract to the states of Illinois and Wisconsin, operates 7 daily roundtrips between Chicago and Milwaukee. An eighth, federally-funded roundtrip continues west to St. Paul, Portland and Seattle.

The next phase is to increase Amtrak service to ten daily departures.
